One Acre of Pathfinder

One acre. It is roughly the size of a football field.  At Pathfinder Ranches, we manage 638,000 of them. Each one finite and unique in character and feature. Our mission is to embrace the holistic, restore the degraded, and preserve the pristine acres of Pathfinder Ranches.

Conservation starts with the soils... from the "ground down" if you will.  Soil is alive. One gram of soil at Pathfinder Ranches holds up to one billion bacteria, several yards of fungal filaments, a few thousand protozoa, and scores of nematodes.  Soils store carbon from the atmosphere and the management at Pathfinder Ranches enhances this storage.

On top of carbon, our acreage supports various habitats, that, joined together, create a diverse ecosystem. Over 300 species call Pathfinder Ranches home. The folks at Pathfinder Ranches perform extensive state-of-the-art monitoring with a multitude of habitat enhancement projects to consistently trend upward in ecosystem health.

Our Sustainability Solutions directly result from these projects, ranging from stream and riparian restoration to spring development and protection and from wildlife migration to water quality augmentation.  What story would your corporation like to tell about the work you have supported?

The Breadth of the Story

Pathfinder Ranches covers an expanse equal to the size of 30 Manhattans.  But instead of New York City's 40 sky-scrapers—three entire mountain ranges tower above Pathfinder’s skyline.  Instead of releasing 54 million metric tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere per year—Pathfinder’s soils capture and store over 1.2 million metric tons of carbon per year.   Instead of 1.63 million people—over 300 species, including 60 threatened, endangered or sensitive animals, birds, fish and plants, call Pathfinder Ranches home.  Instead of 500 miles of streets—pristine reaches of the Oregon, California, Pony Express and Mormon Trails wind through Pathfinder’s open spaces, many along the North Platte and Sweetwater Rivers.  Our sage-grouse habitat conservation bank—the largest habitat conservation bank in the United States: larger than every other bank approved by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to date combined—and our emergent wetland and stream bank are testament to the ecological value of our lands.
